Powdersville Water Honored as Pillar of the Community

Presented by the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce, the Pillar of Easley Award recognizes and honors a long-standing business that plays an active role in our community and is highly respected as an important contributor in making our community strong, vibrant and successful. At its Annual Meeting & Awards Dinner on March 29, the Easley Chamber was pleased to honor Powdersville Water as its 2022 Pillar of the Community.

Created in 1971, Powdersville Water has contributed over 50 years of service and leadership to the Easley-Powdersville area, providing quality drinking water to portions of Anderson and Pickens counties. At their formation in 1971, they served 1200 customers, but today, they now serve over 14,000 customers with water transported over 410 miles of pipe. Their operations also require strong partnerships with other utility partners to ensure adequate sources of drinking water to their system, including local partnerships with Easley Combined Utilities, Greenville Water System, and Anderson Regional Joint Water System.

As a leader in the water utility industry, Powdersville Water is a charter member of the Partnership for Safe Drinking Water Distribution System Optimization (DSO). In 2012, this company established the Water Efficiency & Auditing Program to be a good steward of the water it purchases and delivers. In March 2015, they were recognized with the Directors Award by the Partnership for Safe Water’s DSO Program, becoming the first utility in South Carolina to receive this award and one of only eleven nationwide. And in 2018, the SC Rural Water Association recognized them as Water System of the Year. Their commitment to planning, innovation, excellence, and the education of customers on wise water use have made this company a leader in efficient resource management.

In addition, Powdersville Water values the importance of community collaboration and support. They are active supporters of both the Greater Easley and Anderson Area chambers of commerce, with their employees serving on the Easley Chamber Board of Directors, Anderson Chamber Board of Directors, Powdersville Business Council Advisory Board, Water Resources Committee, Young Professionals Committee, Ambassadors Committee, and Public Policy Committee. Powdersville Water is also a supporter of the Save-our-Saluda and Adopt-a-Stream programs, as well as offers support to Anderson School District 1 and United Way. And through a partnership with Anderson Interfaith Ministries, they offer customers the opportunity to round up their bills to the nearest whole dollar to create funds to assist families in need with utility bills or water tap fees.
